Steve,
Needless to say, your Article on our show has ruffled a lot of feathers
within our ranks. However-some good things have surfaced as a result.
- Our new contest home will be the Lawrence, MA Elks Hall. A great new
large hall that will accommodate the model exhibition, vendors, food, and
raffle. This will also allow us to have greater control of the vendors,
and entrants via the PA system.
- The 2002 date is Sunday, October 20th
- We will be making notes on "Best Of" awards as each class is judged,
then go back and make our choices from these entries.
- We thought that bringing in judges from outside the club would add
integrity to the judging results. After reading your article-I guess it
didn’t. I am told that Doug E. had as much input as the other 4 judges. We
will not use outside judges in the future.
- We will now, however, pick up models and scrutinize every area of the
entry being viewed…eliminating your so-called "Gotcha Factor". We will
leave it up to the entrant as to whether they want their piece handled.
They may check either "yes" or "no" on the sheet that stays with the
model. On more delicate pieces-use of a mirror is suggested.
I had hoped that your article would not start a pissing contest between
clubs. It would not be beneficial to each club if we did not attend each
others show. Don’t forget…every show that disappears kills our hobby a bit
more.
I hope this note finds all of your members in good health. Feel free to
publish this in your newsletter, if you wish.
Best of days to you, and to all MassCar members
